Ryan was referred to the SYMF project in November 2014, but was reluctant to take part in the project, and refused to engage in training. Ryan was initially reluctant to attend any appointments, and had to be persuaded to join in with the project.
After an ongoing battle to get Ryan to attend, it was decided to place him on hold from the project. Following close communication between SYMF and Youth Offending Team, Ryan agreed to join SYMF and re-engaged in August 2015. He expressed an interest in hands-on work, and seemed to have turned a corner, with an improved attitude and he was actually looking forward to starting work.
Ryan engaged well in training, and completed all units, enabling him to start a work placement and earn a wage. He started his placement with Neath Town Council in October 2015, and all feedback from his employers has been positive. His supervisor has described him as 'polite and helpful.' An incredible turn around for a young man who initially did not want to take part, and is now able
to work toward a career he enjoys.
