Lyndsey is a young mum who, in the past, had completed several training courses but had failed to find a direction which really interested her. She met with Construction Youth Trust and attended a taster course, showcasing a variety of construction skills and trades which could be applied in her own home, and offered information on career opportunities in construction.
This sparked Lyndsey's interest, she attended a recruitment day for the first stage of an upcoming practical community project and was awarded a place on the project due to her commitment and hard work.
Lyndsey proved to be a crucial member of the team, displaying dedication, enthusiasm and commitment throughout the project. She really cared about the end result and not only did she complete her own work to a high standard but she encouraged and helped others to do the same. At the end of Stage One Lyndsey had completed an Open College Network accreditation in Plastering and had passed her CSCS test; a requirement for anyone working on a construction site.
At the end of project, Lyndsey was offered a work placement with KeepMoat who were very impressed with her work. She then went on to complete another work experience opportunity later- an on site placement labouring with a construction company. She was subsequently offered a full time, permanent position within the company and alongside working, she is attending college in order to train in a specific trade (all of which is funded by her employer).
'I was told about a course being run in my local area, and decided it was something I would love to get involved with. I learnt so many new skills and was fascinated at how quickly I progressed. This is something I would definitely recommend to others, no matter how bad your life has been Construction Youth Trust can help; they have done wonders for my self confidence.'
